NAICS codes
NAICS classifies your industry. It drives SBA size standards, small-business certifications, and most federal opportunity matching on SAM.gov.
- NAICS 541511 - Custom Computer Programming Services
The NAICS code for writing, modifying, testing and supporting software built for one particular customer, rather than sold off the shelf.
- NAICS 541512 - Computer Systems Design Services
The NAICS code for planning and designing computer systems that integrate hardware, software and communications technology.
- NAICS 541519 - Other Computer Related Services
The catch-all NAICS code for computer services that are not custom programming, systems design, or facilities management.

NIGP commodity codes
NIGP is used mainly by US state, local and education buyers to classify the specific commodity or service they are purchasing. Editions differ between agencies, so confirm a code on the portal you are registering on.

The NIGP commodity code state, local and education buyers use for computer software consulting, within class 918 (Consulting Services).
- NIGP 918-46 - Feasibility Studies (Consulting)
The NIGP commodity code for feasibility study consulting, used when an agency is testing whether a programme or system is viable before committing to it.
- NIGP 918-71 - IT Consulting (Not Otherwise Classified)
The general NIGP commodity code for information technology consulting that does not fall under a more specific class 918 item.

- NIGP 920-40 - Programming Services, Computer
The NIGP commodity code for computer programming services, the SLED counterpart to NAICS 541511. Newer editions extend it to mobile device applications.
